Tips to Keep Your Cooling Bills Down
The heat of summer can get you down. If that is not bad enough, the energy bill from cooling your home can knock you out. You can save money and energy by following these simple and useful tips:
- Going to work for the day? Don't turn off your central AC when you leave. Instead, keep your room somewhat cool (about 75-78 degrees). When you arrive home, return the temperature to your comfort level.
- Set your thermostat at 78 or higher this summer. According to Reliant Energy, every degree below 78 raises your bill 5 percent to 7 percent.
- Keep your windows shaded during the hottest times of the day. Insulated curtains are the best. By doing this you will reduce the heat from the sun coming into your home.
- Use your oven sparingly and at night. Running the oven during the day increases home heat.
- Be sure to have your air conditioning ducts and air conditioning unit checked and serviced once a year by a professional.
